Chapter 1 , Chapter 2 , Chapter 3 , Chapter 4 , Chapter 5 , Chapter 6 , Chapter 7

Chapter 8

Andy could not remember a more excruciating two weeks in her life, partly because she had to spend time with Irv and Preston, mostly because she had not seen Miranda since that Saturday. She would always know it as ‘that Saturday’, the one that changed her life. They had been in contact, but mostly over the phone. Miranda didn’t want to tip off Irv so they had kept their distance. The twins seemed just as keen as Andy was to have contact and were inviting her over constantly. She wasn’t coping, not when she knew what she was missing.

The party celebrating the appointment of Christiana was tonight and Andy was nervous. She was nervous because she would be exposing her duplicitous behaviour but mostly because she would finally be seeing Miranda.

The brunette studied herself in the mirror. She looked stunning in the red Valentino gown. Miranda had chosen it of course, and it showed. Andy couldn’t remember a time when she looked so good. There was no way she could be proud, not when her stomach was doing summersaults.

Preston picked her up at her door, well his driver called while he waited in the car. Andy did a double take when she shimmied into the backseat, not wanting to damage the dress. Is that a cravat? The journalist rolled her eyes internally. She shared a perfunctory kiss, still horrible, and drew her attention away pretending to fuss over the dress. This plan was momentarily successful until she realised she drew Preston’s attention to the significant split up the side of her leg. She realised that she was flashing more skin than she ever had. He was going to read into this, she was sure about that.

Andy walked into the room and felt eyes on her. The erstwhile assistant was at an Elias Clark function. Everyone in the room knew Miranda was due to arrive any minute. Most didn’t know whether they wanted to flee or stay for the fireworks. Andy locked eyes with Emily across the room offering a sympathetic smile. Whatever reaction the redhead was to offer was wiped off her face as she watched Irv Ravitz take his position on Andy’s left. She felt like the sacrifice about to be offered up to King Kong. Little did everyone know what this larger than life Dragon Lady was going to do with her.

The room died down and everyone heads turned instinctively towards Miranda. She was exquisite in a flowing floor length black vintage LaCroix and Andy found it hard not to stare. No one else seemed to notice, the collective attention of the room was focussed on the creamy skin and sumptuous curves. The journalist felt her mouth begin to water at the sight.

“Here we go.” Irv whispered into her ear. He smelled like whiskey and Andy wanted to lurch.

Andy’s stomach tightened as Irv drew her through the crowd toward Miranda who was actually smiling at Christiana. She wanted to run to her, she wanted to trail her lips down that creamy neck and into that voluptuous cleavage.

She didn’t know how Miranda could think she would be able to concentrate when she looked like that. Andy quickly realised that the older woman was suffering the same dilemma. She watched as the Editor’s eyes visibly glazed over when they were exposed to Andy.

The glazed look was quickly slipped behind the mask as the Ice Queen reigned again. Andy didn’t react to the change. She knew the pussycat behind the lion. There was no way she could possibly be scared of the woman before her when she remembered her whimpering and moaning beneath her.

“Irv, such a pleasure.” The editor turned and gave Andy a withering glare. The journalist knew that no one else in the room, except maybe Emily, would notice the slight curve to the woman’s lips. “Preston, I see you have met my erstwhile assistant. How fortunate for you.”

“Christiana” Irv made sure he spoke loud enough to gain the attention of the room. “Welcome to the board. It will be such a pleasure to have you.”

“Of course it is. Christiana is such a dear friend, Irv. She will be perfect for the position. I’m sure you agree.” Miranda’s eyes were dancing and Andy was enraptured.

“Indeed. Perhaps we can see how perfect right now?” This was it, Andy didn’t realise that Irv would do it this way. She looked to Miranda and saw no surprise on her face. Miranda must have known, she must have guessed that Irv would make this public. He wanted to humiliate her.

“What do you have in mind Irv?” Miranda was speaking for Christiana. The woman seemed reluctant to meet anyone’s gaze. Andy wasn’t sure whether she was acting or not.

“A vote. It has been such a long time since we have verified your position as Editor-In-Chief of Runway. What do you say to making Christiana’s first vote about solidifying your position.” The journalist wanted to slap Irv across the face. She saw the smug grins that he and Preston were sporting. The only thing that prevented her from calling them out for what they were was to watch their humiliation when they realised that Miranda had foiled them again. Her Champion had saved the day. Andy blushed at the thought. Her Champion, she had called her that all that Saturday. It would forever be etched in her memory.

“Please, by all means, take a vote.” Miranda looked at Andy. Outwardly, she seemed cold; Andy could see the laughter in her eyes. She wanted to feel slightly ashamed for being a part of this. She knew that any plan she would have come up with would not have been be so public. She couldn’t bring herself to care. Irv brought this on himself.

The vote was carried out. Irv and his followers voted to have Miranda ousted. The Editors voted to keep her in. All that was left was Christiana’s vote. Irv was visibly salivating. Miranda, as usual, was the picture of calm.

“Well Christiana, what say you?” Irv shot a pointed look to Andy as he spoke. He was clearly reminding the woman of what she risked if she voted against him.

“Oh Irv, there is no need to be so obvious.” Miranda was smiling, that soul clenching, brighter than the sun, true smile. Irv noticeably sank.

“Thank you Miranda.” Christiana finally perked up. “I vote to keep Miranda as Editor-in-Chief.”

Irv was furious. His little head became red; veins were popping out of his forehead.

“Did you think that Christiana would succumb to blackmail Irv? I told Christiana that there was no reason to be ashamed. It was the 60’s, the sexual revolution and all that. Why wouldn’t such a beautiful woman take a lover? Of course her husband agreed, didn’t he my dear.” Both women smiled at each other. It took some convincing but Miranda managed to persuade Christiana to tell her husband about her dalliance with her professor in College. It was years before they met. The Editor could never understand why her friend was so self-conscious about it.

“Well Andréa, shall we?” It seemed that everyone in the room had forgotten about Andy in the furore.

“You?” Irv laughed bitterly. “I should have known that Miranda’s pride and joy would never turn on her. You are a good actor I will give you that. I hope you don’t plan on working in publishing, my dear, I will see to it.” Miranda snapped her head back to the small man, her grip on the journalist’s wrist tightening. She was about to say something scathing when she felt Andy’s hand on her shoulder.

Irv Ravitz was about to find out what made Andy the talk of Runway. He was about to find out why she was so highly regarded by Miranda. Andy hoped his realisation was as wonderful as she had planned it to be. No one messed with Miranda Priestly, and no one threatened her career.

“Threatening my career? You could try, but I am valuable for a reason. I am good at my job.” Andy spoke in a low even tone; she had learned her lessons from Miranda well. “I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this. If you had just accepted defeat, we could have been fine.”

Irv actually snorted at this. Preston regarded Andy with a questioning gaze. He offered her a small nod, turned and left. He knew when he was beaten.

Smarter than I thought. Miranda thought. If only Irv was as cleaver.

“I think the board would be interested in some information that I have discovered. It seems that Mr Ravitz has been using company funds in his numerous attempts to oust Miranda as Editor-in-Chief of Runway. According to the documents I have, he has spent over Two Million Dollars in his various attempts.” Andy regarded each board member individually.

“Miranda is costing the company!” Irv was incensed. “Her constant changes and mismanagement are exorbitant. Runway is the most expensive Magazine we have! How do you know any of this?”

“You should treat your assistant’s better Irv.” The irony of the statement was not lost on Miranda. The older woman smirked at the comment.

Carly Jameson regarded Irv as she would something on her shoe. “The magazine also makes more than any other of our publications combined. Our finances are not so abundant that we could afford to foot your personal endeavours, however.”

There it was, Irv watched it happen, the favour of the board turning against him one person at a time. The writing was on the wall.

“Well. What do you say to another impromptu vote?” Miranda’s voice was melodious. She couldn’t believe her luck. It would seem that the Dragon lady’s champion had helped her slay her mortal enemy.

Andy turned and walked towards Emily at the bar. There was no reason for her to watch the vote; she knew what was going to happen. As much as she was glad that Irv was being punished for threatening her Miranda, she still didn’t have the heart to watch his demise.

“Andrea-Bloody-Sachs to the rescue again!” Andy was about to defend herself when she saw the smile on the redheads face. They laughed together and began talking like old times, before Paris, before ambition came between them.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Nigel regarded his employed throughout the vote that finally removed Irv as head of the Board of Directors. She was glowing. It was clear to anyone who decided to see it, that she was actually happy. He knew it was more that just the removal of Irv. He saw it when the woman had finally acknowledged Andy.

“Well that was invigorating.” There it was again, her eyes were dancing.

“Yes, Miranda. What a coup! Irv did not see that coming.” He was happy for Miranda, he really was. Despite all that happened in Paris, he still respected the woman. She had made it up to him in her own small ways. He had more responsibility, more power at Runway. It was clear that she was grooming him to replace her - eventually.

“Neither did I.” Miranda searched the crowd for a glimpse of her Champion, her Andréa.

Nigel watched Miranda scan the crowd, he decided to speak his mind. “She would be good for you, you know.”

Miranda turned to face her colleague and long time friend. “She already is good for me.” She smirked at the shocked expression on Nigel’s face.

“Way to go six.” Nigel mumbled to himself as he watched Miranda glide across the room towards the journalist.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

They should have stayed; it was an Elias Clark function after all. There was no way that either woman could have focussed knowing the other was in the room. When the door of the town car finally closed behind them, they launched themselves at each other. Their lips met in a heated kiss. Andy could feel it all the way down to her toes. They finally broke apart, gasping for air.

“Two weeks.” Andy couldn’t manage to say anything more. Everything she was feeling was expressed in those two words, the loss, the loneliness, the desperation.

“Never again!” Miranda pulled the woman into a bone-crushing embrace. She buried her face in the crook of Andy’s neck inhaling her scent. Her hands began to stroke the journalist’s hair absently and she revelled in the feeling of their bodies pressed together. They spent the entire car ride in the same position, neither wanting to lose the contact.

When they got to Miranda’s town house, the girls were still home. They were meant to be at their fathers but when they heard Andy was coming they wanted to stay and see her. Both women were slightly frustrated by the interruption. They both engaged the girls in conversation. The twins both gushed at how pretty Andy was in her dress. Neither missed the appreciative glances their mother was aiming at the journalist.

“Will you be here tomorrow when we get back?” The implication of the question was clear. Andy found herself fidgeting, avoiding the twins gaze. She saw the silent question when she locked eyes with Miranda.

“Yes my darlings.” That was that. They were out to Miranda’s children. Andy suspected it should have been harder. It wouldn’t be for sometime that she would finally learn of the children’s brush with depression over their mother’s behaviour. Andy would begin to understand that the children knew that their own happiness depended on that of their mother. That was the reason they decided to suspend belief and allow their mother the happiness she deserved.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Andy had chatted to the girls in the kitchen until their father collected them. She found Miranda in her study, staring out of the window the same way she did that Saturday. Andy silently crossed the room and wrapped her arms around her lover’s waist, burying her nose deep into the white tresses.

The symmetry of the moment was not lost on either woman. This was the exact position they were in when they finally found each other.

”My Champion.” Miranda’s voice was a whisper, honeyed with emotion.

Andy felt tears streak down her cheeks. “Always my darling.”

They found themselves in bed, again. It was different this time. It should have been frenzied, after weeks apart, but it wasn’t. Andy was slowly worshipping Miranda’s body. She brought her lips down the curve of her lover’s neck, slowly nipping and licking at the smooth skin exposed to her. She finally drew her attention to Miranda’s naked breasts, already glistening with sweat. The journalist drew small circles with her tongue around the hardened nub, drawing out gasps and whimpers from her lovers lips. Her hands were never idle. First caressing the other breast, then travelling down the curve of a hip and finally, teasingly slowly up the inside of Miranda’s thigh.

She was high, she felt drunk on it. Miranda was shivering under her touch, barely able to form a word; her hips began to move unconsciously seeking out the touch she so desperately desired. Andy was not going to give in, she wanted to stay like this forever, the feel of skin on skin had her reeling.

Andy was about to travel further down Miranda’s soft frame when she felt a hand grip her shoulder, pulling her up. Blue grey eyes opened to gaze into wide brown ones. They came together in a kiss, their devotion seeping into their actions. The kiss deepened with Miranda wrapping her arms around Andy’s waist, drawing her into her.

They stayed like that, exploring each other’s mouths, for what felt like an age. Andy’s attention was finally drawn away from the luscious lips moving against her own when she felt Miranda’s hips begin to rock against her. The brunette gasped at the contact. Her lover’s desire was evident on her thigh. Andy began to move her hips in tune with Miranda’s rhythm, desire coursing through her body.

The pace began to quicken as their slick centres ground against one another. Andy’s attention was fixed on the look of pure desire written on her lover’s face. When Miranda opened her eyes, she found herself ensnared, she couldn’t look away. The journalist rested their foreheads together as they gazed at each other, slowly bringing each other to climax.

Miranda moved her hands from Andy’s waist to grip at her hips, increasing the friction between them. “Oh Andy!” They were the last coherent sounds the woman was able to utter before she felt her orgasm begin to coil and release low in her gut. Both women came with a cry, their eyes never leaving each other.

It was a religious experience. There was no other way for Andy to describe it. She rolled onto her back and pulled the older woman onto her chest. Both women were still heaving from their combined effort. Andy pushed the damp hair off Miranda’s face watching her expression with awe.

Miranda tilted her head and met Andy’s gaze with a brilliant smile. “Thank You Irv Ravitz!”

Andy began to laugh uncontrollably. Truer words had never been spoken.

Chapter 1 , Chapter 2 , Chapter 3 , Chapter 4 , Chapter 5 , Chapter 6

Chapter 7

In those moments, those hours, Miranda knew that her life would never be the same. The truth was it hadn’t been for some time, not since she stared across her desk at that doe eyed dishevelled girl in the lumpy sweater. Ever since that day, she knew what it was like to finally have something that you needed. It was different now, she had more than an inkling of it, and it was palpable. Andréa was hers and it was a glorious feeling.

The editor had been watching Andréa sleep for some time. Running her fingers through soft locks, she felt happier than she had been since her daughters were born. This was it; this was what she needed to get her life back on track. Things were going to change now, and it was all because of this smart fat girl. Chuckling to herself, she realised that she could no longer call her that. It was never really true in the first place. There was no way that she could consider the woman fat after worshipping ever inch of her body. She was not fat, she was curvy, and those curves would be the death of her.

Andréa began to stir, fluttering her eyes as she adjusted to the light. The editor caressed her cheek, calming her into reality. The wide smile she was met with was blaring. She felt it again; she was hooked on this woman.

“Hello” Andy’s voice was honeyed with sleep. She stretched her legs languorously before leaning in to place a kiss on Miranda’s lips.

“I can’t believe I can just do that now, whenever I want.” Andy met her lover’s ice blue eyes and saw the smile dance across them.

“I think it would be prudent to limit our public displays until we deal with Irv.” Miranda could see Andy begin to pout; she knew that she couldn’t do anything that would hurt her. “After that, whenever you want.”

“I don’t want to talk about Irv. I have spent weeks worrying about him and his stupid plans. I want to just sit here with you.” The brunette put her arm around Miranda’s waist and snuggled in closer, revelling in the touch of skin on skin.

“You don’t want to talk about Irv? What about Preston?” The words could have been an accusation, but the laughter in Miranda’s voice betrayed her.

“Oh man!” Andy hid her face in the crook of Miranda’s neck. “That man is incorrigible! He is so handsy! Dougie wanted to deck him.”

“I completely agree with – Dougie? Really Andréa what is it with you and monikers? – Preston is smarmy. I am very grateful that you would associate with him for me Andréa.”

“I would do anything for you Miranda, I hope you know that.” Andy met Miranda’s intense gaze. She wanted her to understand.

“I can see that. I will never doubt you again. As much as I want to avoid Irv and anything to do with him, we do need to talk about it.”

“I know. It would be amazingly stupid to have come this far, and then let him get away with it. Did you know? About what he was doing I mean?” Andy began running her fingers through Miranda’s iconic white tresses.

Her hair must be magnetic or something. Andy mused. Not only did it draw your eye, but it also begged to be touched. She was just glad that she finally had the chance.

“I didn’t know. Irv played a good game this time. I was sure that Christiana was solid; she has been a close friend for years. I was focusing on getting her onto the board. I never thought that Irv would want the same thing. While your loyalty in Paris was a wonderful surprise, it seems that it was completely necessary this time. My champion.”

Miranda leaned in and kissed Andy. At first it was chaste, the movement of soft lips against each other. Andy clearly wanted more. She wrapped her arms around the editor’s shoulders tightening their embrace. At the feel of a wet tongue demanding entry, Miranda was lost. They both moaned at the contact and revelled in the feel of each other.

They finally broke apart, panting. Andy rested their foreheads together.

“What do you want to do then?”

Miranda knew that Andy was talking about Irv, but her mind wanted to go somewhere else. She swatted the idea away. The girls would be coming home soon.

“I am going to talk to Christiana. You should do as Irv says and write the article. I hope that if everyone plays along, he won’t know something is wrong. There is not much else to do. If he suspects something, he still has enough time to come up with another plan.” Miranda sighed audibly.

“You must be sick of this.” It wasn’t a question.

“I just want to edit Runway. I want it to be the best it can be. Is that so hard for Irv to understand?”

“Oh Miranda. He has made it clear that he doesn’t care about Runway and how well it does. This is a vendetta. We have to do what we can for now.”

“We, hmm?” Miranda leaned in and kissed Andy’s cheek. “I like the sound of that.”

The brunette was mesmerised by what she saw. There was no way, in her wildest dreams she could imagine that this was possible. There was no way she could imagine at all with Miranda lazily drawing patters on her bare back. She didn’t realise that she had been silent so long until Miranda finally spoke.

“The girls are coming home soon. I want you to stay and meet them.”

“You want me to meet them?” Andy searched Miranda’s eyes, curious to what thoughts lay behind them.

“I can’t let you go now that I finally have you, Andréa. For me that means the girls being a part of this. I have let them down enough, I won’t do it again.”

“Of course.” Andy caressed Miranda’s cheek. She was worried, how could she not be? She was scared that the twins would see her has an assistant. She needed them to accept her but she had no way of knowing how she was going to achieve it.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Andy could hear the twins before she saw them. She was amazed that so much noise could come out of such small packages.

“Girls, in the kitchen.” Miranda smiled at Andy, it was meant to assuage her fears.

“Mum, Jill is having a sleep over next weekend we can go right. She’s not that bad – Hey! You’re that assistant!” Andy decided it was Caroline. She remembered that the girl had a slight more curl to her hair than her sister.

“Caroline!” Miranda’s reprimand was clear. Cassidy noticed the look on both women’s faces. She could see that something was different.

“Hi.” Cassidy decided it was best to be cautious. This was her usual reaction.

“Hello Cassidy.” Andy smiled widely.

Cassidy was impressed. She would have usually made a big deal about how someone could tell them apart. She remembered this assistant, however. She remembered how she could always achieve the impossible. She also remembered how her mother would prattle on about her for hours. The redheads eyes narrowed at the last memory.

“Girls, this is Andréa. She used to be my assistant at Runway.” Miranda spoke in that same motherly tone that made Andy adore her even more. The brunette loved the different sides that Miranda possessed.

Miranda watched as her girls examined Andy. She smirked when they turned to each other and seemed to communicate something.

“Can Andy stay for Dinner?” Caroline was the one to speak. The girls decided that there was more going on than met the eye. They had not seen there mother this vibrant - this happy even! – since Paris. They both remembered some drama involving Paris and the departure of an assistant. It was entirely possible that Andréa was the cause of their mother’s apathy. If that was the case, Andréa needed to stay in their mother’s life for as long as they could manage it.

“Of Course she can.”

Andy smiled at the matter-of-fact nature in which Miranda spoke. This was it, no questions no consideration, they were going to do this. The journalist found that she couldn’t be more happy at the prospect. There were still so many questions to be answered. She had never been with a woman before, or in a relationship involving children. Andy didn’t care. When Miranda turned to her, a full smile on her lips, she was lost.

Who wouldn’t be?

Chapter 5

Chapter 6

Going into work on a Saturday was a chore, no matter how much she loved her job. This Saturday was going to be one of the more interesting on record. Andy had spent the previous evening schmoozing with Irv, Preston and their circle of insipid friends. She could not remember having a worse time. It was all worth it as she had gotten the information she needed. Now all she needed to do was work out a way to counteract their plans.

The brunette had been sitting at her computer, muttering to herself as usual. Peter who usually watched her in bemusement decided to break from tradition and interrupt her murmurs.

“Who knew you were such a society girl.” Peter dropped a paper onto Andy’s keyboard.

The journalist felt a panic overtake her as she stared back at the image of herself and Irv Ravitz at the opening. She remembered the photographer; he had managed to catch them as Andy laughed at Irv’s lame attempt at humour. The photographer had said that he was taking pictures for the gallery owner. He must have decided to make some money off his endeavours.

“Oh my god!” Sweat was beginning to form on her brow and she was feeling a little sick.

Just as Peter was about to ask her about her reaction, Andy’s phone rang. Her head snapped in its direction and she stared at it as if it held the secrets to the universe.

“Emily’s calling” And with that Peter walked away. He could see Andy was clearly dealing with something and he only felt they were acquaintances. He didn’t want to get involved.

Oh Shit, oh shit, OH SHIT! Andy wanted to ignore the call; she wanted to throw her phone into a fountain or something like she did with her last one. She knew Miranda had seen the photo and she knew Emily was calling on her behalf. I am dead!

“Hello” Her voice cracked as she answered.

“What have you done!” Emily voiced was high pitched, this could only mean disaster. “Miranda saw that photo of you and Irv in the paper. She had me cancel her morning! You are being summoned to the townhouse!”

“The townhouse? Oh, man I am dead. What did she say? Is she angry?” Andy was beginning to worry now.

“You know bloody well that she didn’t say anything! She just got all quiet and has been staring at that picture for ages! She wants you at the townhouse in half an hour. She told me to accept no excuses!” The redhead was speaking so quickly her accent became thicker and thicker.

“What am I supposed to do?” Andy was biting her lip so hard it would be swollen.

“You bloody well go. Now! Get that arse of yours, probably clad in a hideous skirt, and get to that townhouse immediately!”

“Hey! It’s not hideous, it’s Donna Karan!” Andy sighed audibly. “Ok, ok, I am going.”

With that, Emily hung up. Andy would have been mad about it if she could spare a thought on anything other that Miranda’s reaction.

The only way that Andy could make it to the townhouse in half an hour was to take a cab. She cursed at the knowledge that she already had dwindling funds and this would leave her with nothing for the rest of the week.

The journalist was beginning to hyperventilate. She needed to calm down so she called Doug.

“Andy I know you are undeniably grateful that I saved you last night, but I am sleeping here!” Doug’s voice was muffled by his pillow.

“I am dead Dougie! Dead! You can have my furniture and my old issues of Runway. Don’t let my mother find all of my lingerie.” Andy was staring out of the cab window with her forehead pressed against the glass.

“What’s going on? Hey! Why don’t I get your shoes?”

“You wouldn’t fit into them! I am going to die and you are complaining about my bequest?” Andy wanted to laugh at her friends antics, but she didn’t have the strength.
“You are going to have a heart attack from all of the drama in your life recently.”

“Miranda saw a photo of Irv and I at the opening last night, she has ordered me to the townhouse. I am so dead.” She knew she sounded like a scared little child, but she couldn’t help it.

“Ok, let’s calm down. Could this be a good thing? – Wait! Before you answer that just listen! I know she is the Dragon Lady and all that, but you needed to tell her about this whole drama anyway. Now you have your chance.”

“I suppose, but she is going to think that I am plotting against her!” The taxi driver shot a glance at Andy in the rear-view mirror. He smirked at her pout.

“No Andy this is good! She could have left it and tried to take you down. Now you have a chance to explain! This is-- ”

“Oh god I am here!”

“Andy listen to me! Go in there are don’t let her intimidate you. Remember what you have done to save her. Remember Preston’s octopus hands.”

“Your right. But – just in case – if you don’t hear from me in a few hours - ”

“I know remove your lingerie before your mother sees it. How much do you have anyway?”

“Doug!” Andy shut her phone as she exited the taxi.

The journalist stood on the pavement looking up at the townhouse. She had spent months delivering the book to the house, but had never seen it during the day. Straightening her skirt, she steeled herself for the confrontation that was sure to ensue. She tried to remind herself that she had done nothing wrong. She had put herself on the line for Miranda and the woman would be grateful once she heard the story.

Now I just have to get her to listen!

Andy powered up the steps, she was determined to be confident because she had no reason to feel guilty. The door opened before she reached the top step. Miranda stood there wearing her best disinterested pout, her eyes boring into the journalist.

The younger woman faltered. “Miranda, hi.” Dumb, dumb, dumb! That was the best you could come up with? The woman chastised herself.

The older woman turned and stalked down the corridor, her white hair iridescent, revealing the path Andy was to follow. She had never been in Miranda’s study before and she barely noticed it.

It felt like all that time apart had melted away. Andy was back under the spell. If I was ever out of it. She stood before Miranda, back straight, with a determined look on her face. When Miranda finally turned to face her, she was surprised at what she saw.

“So it’s true. My erstwhile assistant has decided that dashing from Paris without a moments notice was not enough. Destroying me once was not enough, now you are determined to do it again.”

Andy had learned long ago that the low breathy tone that Miranda used was more deadly than anything she had ever encountered. This was proven true yet again as the woman’s words cut into her.

“You think--” She was cut off.

“I think that Irv has found the one thing that could hurt the most!” Miranda turned and gazed out of the window, determined to maintain a semblance of control.

The younger woman was devastated. She knew that Miranda would assume that she had turned against her. It hurt her deeply to think that her former employer would think that she would betray her. She wanted to be indignant, she wanted to protest, but she couldn’t. The truth was she betrayed Miranda the day she turned her back on her in Paris. She may not have agreed with what the editor had done, but she didn’t need to leave like that.

Andy walked around the desk that served as a barrier between them and stood behind her former-employer. She spoke in an almost whisper, her breath caressing the back of Miranda’s neck.

“I am loyal Miranda. Let me explain! I know what I did in Paris was childish, but this is different! I went on an assignment and I discovered that Irv was plotting against you. I know how much Runway means to you, so I had to do something about it. I went on a date with Preston James to get information.” Miranda tried to turn and Andy put her hands on the older woman’s arms holding her in place. She couldn’t look at her, not yet.

“I am not proud of it, but I lead him on. I flirted and touched, I even let him kiss me. Nevertheless, I got the information I needed. I found out that Irv is blackmailing Christiana so that when she is elected to the Board, she will vote to have you removed.” Miranda had turned her head, straining to see Andy’s face.

“Knowing was not enough Miranda, I needed to protect you. I agreed to meet Irv and be a part of their plan. I convinced him at the Gallery last night that I hated you and I wanted revenge. He never questioned it. Don’t you see Miranda, Irv is going to tell me what he is blackmailing Christiana with and we can use it to save you.” Andy had pulled in tighter to Miranda’s back, her nose in the woman’s hair. She needed Miranda to believe her.

The silence that filled the room was deafening. Andy was becoming more and more despondent. After what felt like a lifetime, Miranda finally spoke.

“I always knew you were my champion.”

Relief flooded the journalist as she was vindicated. She slid her arms around the older woman and held her tightly. Andy breathed in her scent. She knew that this was always what she had wanted, to hold the woman close. Miranda lent into the embrace and placed her hands over Andy’s.

Miranda began to stir and the journalist released her grip. Turning on the spot, they faced each other. She searched Andy’s eyes and saw no malice, no deception. No consideration was necessary, one look at those doe eyes and full lips and she knew what she had been yearning for. It wasn’t just competence and loyalty as important as they were. Miranda knew that Andy was loyal as more than an employee, she always was. That’s what made her departure all the more agonizing.

The editor leant in, winding her hands around Andy’s thin waist, and kissed her. It was a spark to her soul. He knees went weak when the journalist wrapped her in her arms and pulled her close, deepening the kiss. She knew this was it; it could sustain her through a life of misery. But why settle?

The women pulled apart panting. Andy ran her hands up and down Miranda’s back.

“My Andréa.”

“Oh god, you have no idea what that does to me.” Andy pulled the woman into another deep kiss, her tongue immediately demanding entry. She held Miranda steady as the woman’s balance faltered. She began to lick and nip at the editors lips. A moan filled the room. The journalist decided it was more intoxicating than the way Miranda said her name.

Miranda was losing control and it felt like heaven. She pushed Andy backwards until she felt the desk behind her catch them. She tore her mouth away from the kiss only to latch on to Andy’s throat, licking and sucking until the journalist was whimpering beneath her.

“Oh god, Miranda. I am going to need a flat surface if you intend to continue doing that.”

Miranda’s head snapped up. Andy was more beautiful than she could ever imagine. Her face was flushed, her full lips swollen and her chest heaving as she sucked in more air.

“Bedroom.” She grabbed her soon to be lover’s hands and dragged her into the foyer and up the stairs.

Miranda turned when she reached the bedroom and was swept into a kiss. Andy had her breathless in moments as she ran a long slender hand up the older woman’s waist and under her blouse.

The editor pulled away from the kiss at the feel of Andy’s hand on her skin. She was on fire. She licked her lips as she saw the desire etched into the other woman’s face.

Andy slowly unbuttoned Miranda’s blouse brushing her fingers against the smooth skin of the torso underneath as she did. The editor watched with rapt fascination. Her eyes rolled closed as Andy ran her hands over the smooth skin she exposed.

It had never been like this before. Miranda was always in control, even with her lovers. But with Andy’s hands cupping her breasts and teasing her nipples through the thin fabric of her bra she couldn’t bring herself to care. She lost herself in the woman, gave herself over. She could always count on Andréa to take care of her.

Before she could even register what happened she was supine on the bed with Andy’s weight pressed against her. It was delicious. Miranda ran her hands over the exposed flesh of her lover’s chest and back. When did that happen?

“mmm. Oh Andréa” The words left her mouth before she could control them. She was lost and only Andréa could find her.

Andy unhooked the clasp of Miranda’s bra and had her lips around a rosy nipple before she heard the garment hit the floor. The editor arched into the touch, pushing her further into her lover’s mouth. They were both struggling for oxygen, their chests burning from the exertion.

The editor moved her thigh and pushed it up into Andy’s hot centre. The brunette gasped and threw her head back. She was unconsciously grinding herself into the older woman as Miranda sucked at her breasts. Andy began to run her hands through the luscious white hair under her fingers, urging the woman on.

The journalist wanted to wonder whether Miranda had ever been with a woman before. She wanted to think about how she had never been with a woman before and that she had no idea what she was doing. There was no way she could, she couldn’t concentrate. The friction between her legs sent sparks up her spine. It didn’t matter, nothing mattered when it was possible to feel like this.

Andy pulled herself out of her reverie began to move down her lover’s form, kissing the smooth skin she found along the way. She heard Miranda’s breath hitch when she reached the woman’s pants. She leant down and began to run her tongue under the fabric. The moan that met her urged her on. The journalist removed the older woman’s pants and underwear in one movement.

Andy ran her hands up her lover’s waist and began massaging her breasts. Miranda began whimpering when the journalist began nipping and licking at the skin where her thigh met her hip. A wide grin spread across the younger woman’s face, as she smelt Miranda’s arousal.

“Oh please.” Miranda’s head was thrashing from side to side. It took all of her self-control to stop her hips from canting.

The journalist lost her control at the sound of Miranda begging. There was no way she could tease her any longer. She leant in and kissed the woman deeply, her tongue exploring the other woman’s mouth. Miranda’s hips bucked at the first touch of Andy’s fingers to her swollen flesh.

“You’re so wet.” Andy’s breath caressed Miranda’s cheek. She leant in and sucked at the woman’s neck as she ran her fingers through her lover’s slick folds.

“ugh” Miranda could not form words, not when she felt Andy’s fingers poised at her opening, teasing her.

Miranda let out a deep moan as Andy slowly pressed her fingers deep into her lover’s hot core. Her hips began to rock to the delicious rhythm that Andy had set. She was close already, desperately trying to hold on.

“You’re so beautiful” Andy began to kiss Miranda in the same rhythm as her thrusts. She felt her lover start to quiver as her walls began to tighten around her fingers. She knew Miranda was close and began to increase the tempo and force of her thrusts. Andy took a nipple into her mouth, drawing circles around the tight nub with her tongue.

“I can’t – Andréa please, oh my.”

Andy pressed her thumb against the editor’s clit, never slowing her thrusts. Miranda’s body began to tighten and she let out a wail as she came.

“mmm. That was so amazing.” Andy was amazed that she could cause such a reaction in the editor. She pulled her into an embrace as she came down from the aftershocks of her orgasm.

Miranda opened her eyes to see those doe eyes staring back at her. Both women smiled and the editor leaned in to kiss the journalist. Without any warning Miranda plunged into Andy’s heat with two fingers. The brunette threw her head back in ecstasy as she let out a wail.

The editor flipped them and used her weight to thrust into the slickness between Andy’s legs. She brought their mouths together in a searing kiss as she pressed her thumb against Andy’s clit.

Andy broke the kiss and grabbed Miranda’s hips increasing the force of the thrusts. She was close and there was no way she could hold on. She hooked her legs around Miranda’s waist, pulling her deeper into her core, as their breasts pressed together. It only took a few moments of the delicious contact before Andy arched up off the bed and came with Miranda’s name on her lips.

Miranda pressed their foreheads together, her fingers still buried in the woman. She looked deep into the woman’s eyes.

“My champion!” There was awe and satisfaction in the editor’s voice.

“And always will be.” The women slumped together and held each other in a tight embrace.

All of the intrigue and drama of the last two weeks was forgotten. Both women had found home in each other. Despite the fact that her job was obviously in jeopardy, Miranda didn’t care. As she ran her fingers through the soft brown tresses of the woman who rested on her chest, she knew that this was all that mattered. She had Andréa and she was never going to let her go.

Chapter 1

Chapter 4

The music and dim lights were soothing to Andy after the day from hell. Since interviewing Preston James, she sat on the information. She had a month there was no rush. As each day went by it became harder and harder to concentrate knowing that the short stumpy man and Irv Ravitz were out there planning on exiling the Queen of Fashion. The more she thought about it the more she couldn’t bear it.

There was no other way for Andy to contemplate Miranda except as the captain at the helm of Runway. Over the months since she left the magazine there was no way to avoid Miranda. Her own paper ran stories on the woman from time to time. Andy was abreast of all of the current public events in Miranda’s life. She knew that Runway was to Miranda was what air was to the rest of the world. There was no way that Miranda could survive without Runway and she was sure the contrary was true.

As Andy watched the faces of the people around her, she became more determined to get to the bottom of what was going on.

When Doug finally arrived, Andy was wriggling in her seat as she tried listening to him vent about his day.

“Seriously Andy, would you just go pee so I can vent about this homophobic guy I work with!”

Busted! Andy didn’t want to seem like she didn’t care but fucking Irv Ravitz was going to mess with Miranda!

“Dougie I am so sorry! I just had this weird interview this morning, and now a plot has emerged and I am so worried about Miranda!”

“Woah, wait. Miranda? Plot? Have you been reading mystery novels again?”

This was what made Doug her best friend. Although he clearly had a crappy day, he could put that aside for Andy. Nate would have been moody all night if she didn’t listen to him rant about his work. It was times like these she was almost glad she and Nate fizzled out.

“No this is true!” Andy laid out the events of her day, including Preston’s sleazy behaviour.

“You know you look hot in that outfit. I would be all over you if I was into that!”

Andy blushed; it was nice to be complimented sometimes.

“I am going to stop Irv! I have come up with a plan. I need you to tell me I am not crazy Doug.”

“Obsessing over a boss who you haven’t seen or spoken to in months is crazy? Never!”

“You fiend! I am not ‘obsessed’. What! Just listen. Preston is part of this world. I could use him to get to the short stumpy guy. Find out who the board candidate is. Maybe get to Irv before he manages to hurt Miranda.”

“Here she comes to save the day!” Doug actually sang the line while pumping his fist into the air. Andy just rolled her eyes and shook her head.

“Ok, serious time. Miranda needs saving? Ok ok don’t make that face at me! Wait did you say use Preston? Like how?”

Andy didn’t like this part of the plan at all. How else was she going to do it? She braced herself for the reveal.

“I still have his card. I was thinking I could, you know, take him up on his offer. Wait no don’t freak out. I won’t sleep with him or anything. But I can go out with him and try to get some details out of him.”

“You’re really serious about this. Is it really worth all this to save Miranda?”

“I can’t believe you just asked me that! Of course it is Doug. Runway is her life! I saw her reaction to her divorce, and she didn’t really seem to care about Stephen. She loves Runway. It would kill her!”

There was no way Doug would talk her out of this plan. She had Preston’s card in her hand under the table, twisting it nervously.

“Ok, as long as you only go to places where there are lots of people! I mean it. I will go too or something, drag you away before he can try anything.”

Andy was beaming. She loved Doug he really was the best. She whipped out her phone and began to dial.

“You really mean business! I am gonna need a drink for this!”

Doug’s smile matched Andy’s. He missed this side of her. He hadn’t seen her so alive in ages.

Doug made faces throughout the entire call to Preston. Andy had to bite her lip to stop laughing. At one point, after making the international sign for vomit, Doug laughed so hard he snorted and Andy couldn’t help herself.

Before she knew it, Andy had a date with Preston James. She had to finesse her way out of an invitation to his apartment. Now she just had to avoid his advances long enough to help Miranda.

~*~*~*~*~*~

It had been a week since Andy had first learned of Irv’s new plan to try to get back at Miranda. She found herself nervously waiting for Preston yet again. It was a cold New York night and Andy’s Vera Wang dress did little to avert the cold. She hated being cold and it was starting to weaken her resolve. There was no way her conscience would allow her to do nothing, but she was seriously reconsidering confronting Miranda.

Oh, Thank God. Andy would never again be so glad to see smarmy Preston swagger his way toward her. He was obviously dressed to impress, his pants were so tight Andy could see that the cold was affecting him. She giggled to herself at this observation.

“Hi there, I was so glad you called me.” Andy had to wriggle slightly to prevent Preston’s hand from stroking her arse as he hugged her. She wished she could use the hip twist that she and Lily had spent the night perfecting when they were in college. It was a simple move really. They learned that when leaning into an embrace if you plant your right foot close to the other person and turn your hip perpendicular to their body you can limit the contact to the upper arms. She knew that the move would send the ‘friend’ vibe and that wouldn’t help her.

Preston was waved through the velvet rope at the club he wanted to take her to. Andy would have been impressed if she wasn’t scanning the crowd at the bar for Doug. She really appreciated his resolve; he had been here for hours to ensure that he wouldn’t be stuck in the line.

She started to panic when the owner ushered them into them into the VIP room. Andy knew that if she needed to escape, Doug wasn’t far off, she just wished there was no barriers between them.

“I thought you might call me back.” Preston pressed in close to her ear; she had to hide her shudder in case he mistook it for desire rather than repulsion.

Andy knew what she had to do. She had to play this up. She smiled that big beaming smile that made all the boys weak in the knees. Leaning into him slightly she slowly ran her finger up his arm.

“What can I say; I was so impressed by you.” Andy leaned in closer so their lips were inches apart. “I couldn’t resist you.”

Doug couldn’t believe what he was seeing. From his vantage point, it looked like Andy was blatantly coming on to Preston. He admired her determination but wondered at the motive behind it.

The line between keeping Preston’s attention and having him drag her out of the bar was a thin one. Andy made sure to make it seem like she was interested in him without taking it too far.

“I didn’t expect someone like you to come from The Mirror.” Preston had placed his hand on Andy’s knee and she pretended to straighten her dress in order to get him to remove it.

“Oh really? What were you expecting exactly?” Andy batted her doe eyes at him.

“I was expecting a frumpy girl in an oversized sweater.” There was no way that Preston could know how close he came to describing Andy in her pre-Runway days. “You are so beautiful; your talent is wasted at that rag.”

Andy had been waiting for the opening. “Well I didn’t want to be work at The Mirror you know. I had managed to get a job as Miranda Priestly’s assistant at Runway. I had to work so hard to get it.”

“Now that seems more like you, I know a lot of girls who would kill for that job.” Andy did a mental eye roll at that phrase.

“I did have to kill for that job.”

“You went from your dream job to The Mirror. Sounds like you were bitten by the Dragon.” Andy grabbed the hand that was running along her clavicle and drew circles over it.

“Yes, it would seem that the Ice Queen banished me from the Castle. Now I can’t get a job in any fashion magazine anywhere! I even tried Europe.” Andy unleashed her coup de grace, a full on doe eyed pout.

“What if I told you that I could get you a job at Runway?”

“I knew you were connected Preston, but this is the Dragon Lady!”

“Well I am connected enough to be a part of a plan to slay said Dragon Lady. La Priestly won’t know what hit her! You could be a part of it you know.”

This was an unexpected turn of events. Andy hoped that Preston gave her enough information that she could work things from the outside. She would never have guessed that he would bring her into the inner circle.

“She made my life hell” It wasn’t a lie, just not the whole truth. “Just let me know what I have to do. What is this plan of yours anyway?”

“I knew that this would interest you! You remember at our interview I was talking with that man? That was Verne Hecker. He has some dirt on the new Board member that they are going to elect. Miranda thinks that she is firmly in her camp. She is going to be so surprised when the first vote is to get a new Editor-in-chief!”

Andy had to smile. She was right; she had managed to work it out. Now she just needed to know what the dirt was and find out a way to neutralize it.

“You want me to be a part of it? It sounds great.” Andy smiled brightly. If she were braver, she would have moved her thigh seductively over Preston’s. That was a move that always got her into trouble, and she didn’t want trouble with Preston.

“There is an event next week. Irv Ravitz and Verne are going to be there. Irv has been looking for someone to help him. I think he would be tickled to use an ex-assistant of Miranda’s!”

“You want me to go? I can’t wait to find out what the dirt is!” She really couldn’t. It had been plaguing her all week. She only had three weeks before the board election. Now it would seem that Preston was going to put that evidence into her lap.

If Andy thought that being attentive to Preston was hard, then she had no idea of the meaning of the word. All she could think about was the plan and the evidence. She was steeling herself already for her first meeting with Irv since she left Runway. However, she had to keep her focus on Preston. It was harder than she could have imagined. She just wanted to leave, but she needed him to stay in her corner.

What felt like ages later, Preston suggested they leave. Andy saw the lecherous gleam in his eyes and began working out her exit strategy. She wanted to make some lame excuse. That wouldn’t work, why would he want to take her to see Irv if she brushed him off. She needed to dangle the promise of more or else he would lose interest. That thought process lead to Andy and Preston standing at her apartment door.

“I had a great night.” Andy placed her hand in the centre of Preston’s chest. The move could have been read as an attempt at contact. In reality, it was a physical barrier between them.

“Am I not coming in?”

“I may be a Runway girl at heart, but I do not invite men in on the first date, as much as I want to.” The last part was spoken in a whisper. Andy internally winced at it.

“I can live with that, I guess. I will pick you up on Friday and we can meet Irv. I am sure you will be pleased with the plan.”

“You really know how to charm a girl.” Andy was sure that her bright smile faltered a little.

Before she could turn around and flee into the safety of her apartment, Preston had his weight against her. He leaned in and placed a rough kiss against her lips. He tasted like Whiskey and he hadn’t shaved today. Andy could never understand what men felt was so appealing about stubble. She never thought it was manly. Think of Miranda, she thought, I am doing this for her. Andy spent the kiss thinking of creamy skin and soft hands.

Preston offered his lecherous grin, his hand trailing to grasp at the brunette’s hip. Before Andy had to worry about his next move, he stepped away.

“Ciao Bella.” And with that, he turned and left.

Andy must have stood there for at least a minute collecting her thoughts. To someone passing by it might have seemed like she was stunned from the kiss, revelling in the moment. She was actually trying to contemplate what she had gotten herself into. Preston wasn’t a bad kisser, he wasn’t good either. It reminded her of something Lily used to say. Kissing is like chocolate. Sometimes it is bad, but it’s still chocolate.

How on earth was she going to avoid him next week?

Chapter 1

Chapter 2

Andy’s mind was flying as she rode the subway back to The Mirror. She was staring at her phone going through her contact list. Of course she still had all of the contacts she had from Runway. Who would throw away a valuable resource like that? It felt strange; she knew she had to let Miranda know. That was a given. Perhaps if she had even pondered it she would have thought it strange that she was so invested in Miranda even after eight months apart.

What was she supposed to do, ring Miranda? Yeah right that would be a great conversation. ‘Hi Miranda, remember me? Yeah well I overheard this thing today.’ She could practically hear the smoke coming out of her former boss’s ears.

No she had to find a way to let her know without letting her know that it was coming from her. This was the first time since she threw her phone into the fountain in Paris that she really regretted it. It wasn’t like they would have been best friends or anything, but at least they may have been professionally cordial.

The whole Paris plot reminded her of something. Miranda knew in Paris about Irv’s attempts to de-throne her. Perhaps she knew now? Andy didn’t know if she could risk it, she needed to make sure. Who could she turn to?

Andy scrolled through her contact list carefully considering each entry. Once she was out of the subway she would dial one of them. She had to be sure.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The sun shone brightly on Andy’s face as she dashed out from the subway. She dialled the first number that she came across on her contact list.

“Miranda Priestley’s Office”

Thank God, Emily still worked there.

“Emily, don’t hang up!” Andy winced, she sounded pathetic.

“Andy? What are you doing calling here, are you insane?” Andy had to smile at that, she could just picture the flustered red head.

“Listen, I know this is weird. I just wanted to, um, check up.” Now what she was on the phone she knew it was a bad idea.

“I’m hanging up.”

“No! Wait! Look I just wanted to see how things were, you know. How is Miranda? Um, I mean, well, is Irv still trying to kick her out?” God this was going abysmally.

“Oh you know Miranda, she is just peachy. Knowing her as well as you do, you would also know that she spent all of last night chatting to me about her life and her relationship with Irv! You are high or something aren’t you, or is this a drunk dial or something?”

“A drunk dial? Emily, it’s 11:30!”

“Yes well, that’s what you reporters do right? Hobble around in atrocious shoes drunk out of your minds.” Despite the jab, Andy realised she really missed the woman.

“Ok this was a bad idea. Look forget about my calling.”

She waited for Emily to say something else cutting or just hang up. When she was met with silence she did something that could have been even more stupid than calling at all.

“Look do you want to go out for a drink or something? Catch up? You know it’s been ages, and I always liked you”

“Yes well, you were always frighteningly chipper. I suppose it wouldn’t kill me. But you will not consume carbs in my presence Andrea, do I make myself clear?”

Andy beamed, she really did miss Emily she reminded her of Runway.

“Oh come on, are you going to deny me some curly fries?”

“Fried carbs? I look forward to seeing you, you must be huge. Call me and set up a time.”

With that she hung up. Andy laughed; the hardened New Yorkers around her didn’t even take the time to glance in her direction. She loved messing with Emily, but she still had no clue how to help Miranda.

Thinking about this logically it was unlikely that Miranda would tell anyone if she knew about the plot. Her next port of call would have been Nigel. It would be more unlikely for Nigel to know than Emily. At least Emily would have been aware of what was going on in the office. Nigel would have not been privy to that nor would Miranda have told him.

She should get in contact with Nigel again, she missed him. Plus she wanted him to tell her that her bubble skirt and yellow Dior combination was gorgeous. She knew it was, she just wanted confirmation.

As she reached the doors of The Mirror she sighed. She would need to let Miranda know directly. How else was she going to do it? Send her an anonymous note? Yeah right, Miranda would be all over that. As the elevator doors shut, she felt trapped in the knowledge that she was going to do this.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Andy stared at her computer trying to write up her article about Preston’s website. She knew what she wanted to write but she was too distracted to concentrate. All she could think about was Miranda. What if they are going to try and usurp her soon?

There was no way the she was going to get this article done when she was thinking about this. She bargained with herself, she would write the article up tonight and spend her time now working out what to do.

With that settled she brought up a new document to collate what she knew. She knew that the short stumpy man knew of a plot to oust Miranda. That stumpy man believed that it was his influence that would be the key to success.

Andy clasped her hands and stared at the ceiling in contemplation. It seems that she thought the answers lied heavenward.

“Oh Cindy!” She exclaimed. Andy had a tendency to talk to herself out loud when she felt like she was on to something. Peter, who had the cubicle beside her, chuckled. He knew not to interrupt her when she muttered at her screen.

Cindy was mentioned and so was the board. Andy reasoned that whatever the plan was has something to do with the board of Elias Clark. Andy didn’t know a lot about business but she knew that the board could choose a new Editor-In-Chief if so inclined.

The only other thing Andy knew of the board was that Irv was the chairman. She began a web search and was soon staring at Irv’s smarmy photo along with five others. There was Michael Stevens, Carly Jameson and Frederick Tozier. It was the last two board members that interested her though. Cindy Donovan was a board member. So this is who Preston was talking about. She must be in Miranda’s Camp. That would mean that the last board member Robert Helios must also be. According to the site he was soon to retire from the board.

Relief was apparent on Andy’s face as she realised that Robert Helios was not set to retire for another month. That gave her some leeway to work out how she was going to protect Miranda.

Maybe there was a way to do it without involving her at all? Andy was a successful reporter but she was not deluded enough to believe that she could influence the board of a billion dollar company. She could print an article, but it may be more embarrassing to Miranda than the actual plot.

No Andy needed to do something for Miranda without being overt.

Andy thumped back into her chair. She knew what the plan was, but it was not that easy. It’s not like they were going to announce on the Elias Clark site who the new board member was going to be. Most likely there would be a few candidates. One that Irv would favour and one that Miranda would. If the new member could change the ability to oust Miranda then whoever was being elected must change the balance against the editor.

Andy needed to know who the short stumpy man was. If she knew more about him maybe she could work out how he was influencing the new Board member. All she knew was that he was obviously part of the New York elite, he knew Preston and that he was a member of the men’s club. There was no way that the club would advertise its members so that would be a bust.

Maybe she could scroll through some of the images on Page Six? If he was an influential socialite he would have to be there.

After scrolling through pages and pages of images Andy came to a few conclusions. Firstly there were way too many social events in New York. Secondly some of these women needed to stop having face lifts. More importantly she decided that Preston James thought entirely too much of himself. There he was, in photo after photo. It seemed that there was not one event in which he would attend, that same self satisfied grin on his face.

Surely this could not be her only option. Well she could still try and slip Miranda a note, or show up at the town house. Yeah Right! Andy liked her head attached to her body. As much as she hated Preston he seemed like the lesser of two evils.

Thank god she still had his card. Her initial impulse was to scrunch it up and throw it as far from her as she could. Her Runway instincts prevailed; contacts could always come in handy.

This was going to be a bad plan, she could see it now. Preston was worse than Christian Thompson. At least Christian was charming. What was she going to do?

Chapter 1

Andy sat staring around the large glossy lobby. She couldn’t help thinking that the space reminded her of the lobby of Elias Clark foyer. Comparing things and people she saw to her time at Runway was the bane of her existence. She mentally chastised herself as she ruffled her bangs.

Her abhorrence of waiting was apparent as the man sitting next to her glared at her as she tapped her Christian Louboutins on the polished granite floor. Andy was supposed to be interviewing some young stud CEO of the newest social networking site that has become all the rage. Andy was still young and hip, well mostly. She understood the desire to keep up with friends and social networking sites made that easy. What she didn’t understand was the need to inform said friends that you had toast for breakfast and post photos of your previous evening’s drunken debauchery.

When she was first handed this assignment she was expecting, well not to be cliché, a geek. When she began her research into the dot.com entrepreneur she did not expect to see the good looking son of a rich and affluent New York family. As she watched Preston James approach her she decided he looked more like a cast member of Gossip Girl than a savvy business man.

The truth was he was no entrepreneur he was just a guy with money. He didn’t design the site, nor did he come up with anything original. He simply had the money to pay a web designer to create a new facebook style site with a dating service attached. It hardly set the world on fire but the figures could not be denied.

Andy started to question her decision to wear her short bubble skirt and low cut Dior top. She could tell by the look that she was getting from Preston that this would be a long interview indeed.

Before she knew what had happened she was sitting in the front area of some men’s only club. It figured he would bring her somewhere like this. Why they couldn’t conduct the interview in his office was beyond her. Now she sat in a large leather chair trying to be interested in the pompous egotistical man that sat across from her. He cradled his exorbitantly expensive scotch while he flirted and joked. She had been interviewing him for twenty minuted and he had managed to avoid answering almost every question she asked.

It was clear the interview was going nowhere. The whole thing was a farce, a set up to demonstrate how wealthy and privileged he was. He wasn’t even interested in the site at all. Andy began to suspect that he had nothing to do with it. Maybe he was just the face, or the money. This was quickly becoming a waste of her time and she politely nodded and smiled as she practically wrote her article in her mind.

The interview was supposed to be over by now, but Preston kept talking. He really was enamoured with the sound of his own voice. It didn’t help things when all of his equally wealthy and boring club members would stop at the table to chat. Andy thought to herself that this man had no idea what power looked like. It was obvious he was trying to show her he had it. But no one who had spent even a few moments in Miranda Priestley’s presence would ever think that this little show was successful. Miranda held real power, she didn’t need to force it or try to demonstrate it to others she exuded it. It shone around her like a halo, a beacon, just like her signature white tresses.

Andy was busy trying not to pay attention to the current admirer when Miranda’s name broke her out of her reverie. The short stumpy man before her was talking excitedly. She tried to listen in without looking conspicuous. She threw all semblance of propriety out the window when ‘Irv’ and ‘oust’ were uttered in the same sentence. She hoped that they were taking about how Miranda had finally managed to slay the wrinkly beast that was Irv Ravitz. Andy’s heart began to beat faster as she listened in closer.

“He’s been trying to get rid of her for years. But of course, you know the plan would only be successful with my input.” The stumpy man face contorted into something similar to a smile as he watched for Preston’s reaction.

Andy still didn’t know who this guy was but it was obvious that something was afoot.

“And Cindy still believes that he will sit on her side of the Board? Ousting Miranda will be a feat.” It was clear that Preston knew the players but had no interest in the game. Andy became despondent when he began to make his apologies to the stumpy man. She needed more information.

Preston finally turned his attention to her after the stumpy man left without even glancing in her direction. His lecherous smile widened, Andy knew that she was not going to enjoy trying to get out of there.

“So, would you like to see my apartment? It is only a few minutes away.” He watched her, seemingly nonchalant, like he didn’t care what her answer was.

“Thanks, but I have to get back to work. You know how it is, articles to write and all that.” She tried to flash her best innocent, friendly non-flirty smile.

She quickly gathered her things and tried to leave before he tried to convince her further. She cringed when he thrust his business card into her hand explaining that his personal line was on the back ‘in case she needed anything’. She tried not to roll her eyes at that.

A/N: Andy never left in Paris. Therefore Established relationship.
A/NN: I was in the lift today, this was what came to my mind when i heard "going down" - *sigh* i have a dirty mind.
A/NNN: I have recently discovered this fandom (i know, slow huh!) now i am totally obsessed with it.
A/NNNN: Do American's say elevator or lift? Who knows, its Lift in Australia.

Andy sat at her desk absentmindedly tapping her Jimmy Choo’s on the parquet floor.

Emily eyed the brunette. She would not admit it aloud but she was looking better than good recently. God how did that Pygmalion do it? She knew it was more than the outfit she seemed to glow. She snorted, I am going crazy, she does not have a life, how can she be glowing?

Miranda could hear Andy tapping her shoes on the floor; she knew why. A smile ghosted across her lips. Sometimes she loved to make her wait, today was one of those days. The older woman returned her attention to the page in front of her, a white lock dropping elegantly onto her forehead.

She loves this. I shouldn’t be so surprised, she loves power. Andy was becoming more impatient by the minute. They were supposed to be at home by now. Of course as far as the rest of the office was concerned, she was supposed to be off running errands while Miranda went home to ready herself for her dinner with Vera Wang. They didn’t need to know what they actually had planned.

Andy felt a surge of electricity shoot through her stomach at the thought. She glanced at the toolbar on her screen. They were loosing precious minutes and she wanted as much time as she could get with her lover.

A noise from inside the office tore Andy out of her daydream.

“Emily, confirm my lunch with Donatella tomorrow and get the twins a DSi each. Oh, and please watch that damnable cast! I do not want the floors around here scrapped to high heaven. That is all.” In a flash, the white hair streaked toward the elevator.

Andy quickly stepped in behind her lover. Her impatience should have subsided but it was getting worse. She had lost 30 minutes of alone time with Miranda and she wanted it back.

“I will have to stop at James’ on the way; he has something he just has to show me now. I hope it is better than the last atrocity that he dared show me.” Andy knew she was talking about James Holt, but she didn’t care about that.

Were stopping? The words hammered in her brain. They were going to lose even more time. The brunette became more and more incensed. Their time together was short as it was. It compromised stolen moments here and there. The twins did not know about them yet so she could not spend the night at Miranda’s townhouse very often. She had to slip out very early when she did.

The elevator dinged its arrival and the doors opened. Miranda stepped in and her lips hinted at a smile as Andy wordlessly entered it after her. The editor knew that her lover was fuming and the prospect excited her.

Andy did not know what to do; she heard her watch ticking away as the doors of the elevator closed. Her visions of their afternoon together slowly fading.

Going Down. The automated voice announced their destination to the lifts occupants.

It hit her, just like that. She knew how she was going to get her time back, and she was going to enjoy it.

Miranda felt the shift and it was palpable. She turned to face Andy and saw the predatory gaze. It sent shivers down her spine.

“Andrea?” The word dripped like honey. Andy wanted to taste it all.

“Don’t mind if I do!” The brunette pressed the ‘stop’ button and the lift came to a halt.

Before Miranda could form another word, Andy was on her. Her hot mouth pressed against her own as long lithe hands ran down her sides to grip forcefully at her ass.

Miranda bucked in response, Andy always managed to do things to her no other ever managed. A low guttural moan escaped her lips as Andy’s tongue massaged its way around her mouth.

Their bodies pressed together in a tight embrace as Andy backed her lover against the wall. Their mouths separated and Miranda opened her eyes to see her lover’s eyes, half-lidded with desire burning furiously in front of her. Her breath hitched at the sight.

Her head slammed back against the wall as Andy ran her hands up luscious thighs. Her mouth latched onto the smooth alabaster neck that was now exposed to her.

She could not take it any longer. If they had the time, they could have the afternoon she planned, the one she had been dreaming of. She had to make the most of this.

Strong hands pushed up the grey skirt that kept the editor’s delectable form hidden. Andy smirked against her lovers shoulder at the whimper that escaped her lips.

This will teach her for making me wait.

Icy Blue eyes snapped open at the loss of contact as Andy separated their forms. She pressed her hand on the wall next to Miranda’s face and leaned in close, their mouth millimetres apart.

“You have been making me wait all afternoon.”  She could see the blaze of understanding in the editor’s eyes.

“Andrea, whatever do you mean?” The amusement was apparent in the older woman’s tone.

It was also the last coherent thought she could manage. Before she could register what happened, Andy was on her knees in front of her. She alternated between soft kisses and light bites on the inside of the smooth thighs in front of her.

Miranda’s hips bucked, her eyes snapping shut at the sensation. She felt strong hands pull down her panties, then grasp around her knees, and forcefully separate them. She was exposed and she did not care.

A moan escaped the older woman’s lips at the feeling of warm breath on her exposed flesh. She longed for Andy to touch her.

Andy watched her lover’s face, enthralled. Her tongue darted out for that first taste that always had her wanting more. She didn’t know whose moan it was, but it echoed in the small space.

“Andrea please” She smirked to herself as she ran her tongue up the length of her lover’s slit. She was amazed at how little she had to do to get Miranda to beg. She was so controlling and powerful to the rest of the world. Little did they realise what lay beneath. Miranda threw herself into their sex life with reckless abandon. It was a common occurrence to have the woman writhing and moaning under Andy’s touch. It was a side of her that she had all to herself, and she was not going to share it.

Miranda’s hips started to grind in unison with her lover’s movements. The tightness in her stomach started to grow as her lover brought her to the edge.

Andy wanted more, she had been waiting all afternoon, she needed to hear Miranda scream. She ran her left hand down a strong leg and lifted it over her shoulder opening her lover to her.

A gasp filled the space as Miranda felt herself open wider giving her Andy more access. It wasn’t enough, she needed more and she knew Andy felt it too.

“More, Andrea please.”

God she loved it when she begged. The brunette lifted the other leg onto her shoulder, taking her lover’s weight. Her tongue traced her lovers slit, pressing hard against her clit as she passed it, and dipped into her lovers core.

“Ugh…oh god yes!” Miranda’s hips started to buck in time with her lover’s movements. She gasped at the feel of Andy’s nose rubbing against her clit as the moved together. She desperately needed to ground herself; she searched in vain for something to hold onto. Her hand finally came to rest on the silken locks she adored to twirl between her fingers. This only served to increase the glorious pressure that was building in her gut.

Andy felt her lover’s ankles lock together behind her back holding her in place. She smirked, there was no way she was going anywhere.

Her head was thrown back against the wall, her mouth agape, that one white lock fluttering back and forth on her brow. She wanted it to last longer, but it was futile, there was no way she could hold it back.

A soft whimpering noise filled the room as Miranda reached the precipice. Andy knew she was desperately holding on, trying to prolong the bliss. Usually she would let her, hold her there, but not today, they didn’t have time. People would start to wonder why the lift was stuck. The brunette vowed to herself to finish this properly when they got home.

Andy raked her hand up her lovers form to grasp a full breast in her hand. The woman above her couldn’t take anymore and began to shudder her release. She stifled a scream, biting into her lip.

Their movements finally slowed as Andy rubbed soothing circles across Miranda’s thighs. Blue eyes finally opened and looked down at a wide toothy grin.

“Whatever possessed you Andrea?” Her breath was still ragged from their encounter.

“The lift said ‘Going Down’; I thought it was a good idea.” She chuckled at the look Miranda shot her.

They busied themselves with straightening up, realising the lift had stopped for some time.

The lift doors opened slowly and the editor tore through them, scarf flapping behind her as her heels clacked on the marble floor.

Nigel stood in the foyer, watching incredulous to the fact that the lift had been stuck.

“Why are you all standing here gawping? Is there not one of you here who could have gotten me out!” The older woman stormed toward the exit. “Andrea, Come!”

Nigel shot a sympathetic look toward Andy, obviously worried at how Miranda’s mood would affect her.

Andy tried her best to look forlorn. It was a difficult task given that the events in the lift kept playing in her head.
